CCUA Reaction: Ministry of Justice to increase 171 court and tribunal fees early April 2025.

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) has published a new blog entitled ‘Shaping civil justice: reflecting on successes and looking to the future‘. The blog outlines progress with the national roll out of HMCTS’ end-to-end digital service and identifies next steps for the civil courts.

As 2022 begins, we find ourselves in the midst of the latest review of pre-action protocols. Reading the Civil Justice Council’s interim report, many of the aspirations and ideas are clearly well intended and some should work well.

As “Enforcement Reform” returns to the agenda, it is important that it focusses on true reform and does not just become a case of centralisation, digitalisation and streamlining as seen before in other areas. The CCUA has therefore identified 3 priorities.

The Civil Court Users Association (CCUA), whose members issue around 85% of Civil Money Claims in the Courts in England & Wales, is appalled at the latest government consultation to align online civil money claims fees with “paper application” fees, on the basis that it is a further extension of an already harmful fees structure.
