HM Courts & Tribunals Service’s CEO Nick Goodwin has written to Civil Court Users Association (CCUA) with a further update following the closure of Blackpool County and Magistrates’ Court on 1 November 2023, due to Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC).
In January 2024, he wrote to explain that with a new state-of the art courthouse in Blackpool scheduled to open in 2026, HMCTS had determined that, on balance, it was not the best use of taxpayers’ money to invest in the current Blackpool court buildings when they were destined for closure by the end of this calendar year. He shared details of the temporary arrangements which were put in place for hearings from Blackpool to take place across Lancashire.
This new letter provides further information about HMCTS’ plans to ensure local people can continue to access court hearings.
